From March 16th to 18th, 2024, at the Martin Luther University in Halle and Wittenberg, in connection with the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the ophthalmology clinic, a symposium was held dedicated to the exchange of information on new therapeutic procedures – such as stem cell therapies, transplantation techniques, innovative approaches in retinology, and ophthalmic surgery.
During these celebrations, upon
the invitation of the head of the Ophthalmology Clinic at the Martin Luther University in Halle and Wittenberg, Prof. Dr. Arne Viestenz, Prof. Dariusz Dobrowolski (from the Silesian Medical University) participated with a lecture titled ” Corneal tissue engineering – bioprinting of cultivated epithelial cells”, presenting the results of the project “Biodegradable eye patch for corneal reconstruction with corneal limbal cells, prepared as part of autologous transplantation, using bio-printing and 3D printing”, carried out by the project leader Acellmed, Silesian Park of Medical Technology Kardio-Med Silesia, Silesian Medical University, and Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences.
Prof. Dobrowolski’s lecture was met with great interest among the participants of this symposium. At the mentioned congress, the project presented by Prof. Dobrowolski was the only one showcasing such an advanced, personalized therapy utilizing 3D printing and bio-printing.
